Is there anyone left who doesn't recognize what Etsy is? Etsy has become the go-to platform for artists all over the world to sell their wares after 12 years on the online market. In 2016, the site generated $2.8 billion in revenue sales from 29.7 million active buyers!
What I like about Etsy is that it makes it simple to put your skills to use and create a side business from home. But what is the best way to run an Etsy store? How long does it normally take? How much money do you think you'll be able to make? I spoke with 20 store owners about their experiences in order to find answers to these concerns. If you've ever wanted to start your own Etsy shop, or if you already have one but want to improve it, keep reading to find out what it takes from genuine sellers!
CAN ETSY BE GOOD SIDE HUSTLE ?
Etsy isn't the side hustle for you if you're seeking to make a quick buck. Making your products, setting up your business, taking fantastic images, and optimising your product titles and descriptions so people can locate your amazing things takes a lot of effort. The more competitive a market becomes, the more difficult it is to sell a product. This means that making your first transaction and gaining traction may take some time.
Independent retailers, on the other hand, continue to make a nice side income from their wares. 75 percent of the shop owners I spoke with were either full-time stay-at-home parents or full-time outsiders. Only 25% of respondents considered their Etsy shop to be a full-time job.
When it comes to side hustles vs. careers, etsy shop owners fall on both ends of the spectrum. It's totally up to you how much time you devote to it, how much money you make, and how you regard your shop's objectives. However, if you're looking for a way to supplement your income and enjoy being creative, Etsy could be a fantastic fit. Keep in mind, though, that Etsy is designed for people who are passionate about what they do. It's not for the faint-hearted!
HOW MUCH ETSY SHOP OWNER CAN MAKE ?
The sky is the limit, after all. Simple Shapes, for example, makes a million dollars (or more!) per year. And that's what Etsy wants you to think about when you're thinking about starting a business. However, for every shop that makes a lot of money, there are at least 100 others that make almost nothing. An Etsy shop, like any small business, has a high risk of failure, and you must be willing to put in a large amount of upfront work before the money starts to come.
Regardless, every store owner in the Showcase makes a profit from their business. Many of them have seasonal businesses that do well around Christmas or in the spring, but they sought to present the best estimate of an average month to give you an idea of how the business operates. I'm not going to name any shops in this section to prevent disclosing anyone's income or productivity, but there's still a lot to learn from crunching the figures!
